Protective device settings can have a direct impact on the magnitude of incident energy from an arc flash. Sometimes if a device trips, people have been known to increase a device's setting to "stop it from tripping". Have you or anyone you know arbitrarily increased a protective device setting?

No, at our facility, we include this in our Arc Flash Training that workers aren't allowed to do this without engineering approval. If it turns out that the breaker has to be adjusted in order to function properly, the engineer has to go back to the program, put in the new values and run the Arc Flash module to produce new labels, if they have changed. |
