Post subject:  Grey face shields: myth or reality?

Somebody told me there are now grey arc rated face shields, allowing easier colour discrimination (by comparison to a normal green face shield).
I looked for them from a couple manufacturers (Salisbury, Oberon, Paulson), but I couldn't find one.
Anybody know more about these? Do they really exist? If they do exist, is it really easier to identify colours?

This is true. Any blocking of visible light (grey tends to block cross spectrum) will diminish color recognition but grey should be better than colored shields unless it blocks too much light.

I did the testing for the ASTM standard for this sheild and it also has been tested with a proposed IEC box method.

We've had them for about 1.5 years showing at some of our training classes. Pro's and cons with everything. ArcWear DOES NOT sell items. We do testing and take no commissions. BSD has advertised in our newsletter a few times but there competitors advertise more. German company. Seem like good folks.

As you know, I don't sell these. I have contacted them and they sent me the ANSI Z87.1 certificate and I did the ASTM F2178 testing. I always suggest going to the source and asking for test reports. That is the only way to be sure. I do know they had not done the ANSI standard test when I had mentioned them a year or so ago but that was no problem for this shield but they have done the ANSI testing now. Don't know if CSA has different Canadian requirements but these are just hurdles that should be looked into when purchasing.
