I am a 2nd yr electrician. Working in an oil field enviornment as you know 480v is used for the wells. My question is about our older wells. The quad is coming straight into the starter panel....there is not main disconnect in the system. If a person was going to open this panel.....and it's labeled as ARC FLASH EXCEEDS MAXIMUM PPE....then we either have to drop the fuses on the transformer or disconnect the quads......disconnecting quads requires cat 3 ppe....is that correct ?? |

If an arc hazard analysis has been done, there should be an IE for the transformer secondary. What is the term "quads"? Are you talking about transformer primary fuses? What kind of fuses? |

I am referring to the lines coming from the power line to the service pole.....routed down a riser right into the starter panel. is quad the incorrect term ?? |

Quad?? What is the amperage on this starter?? Using the utility line fuses as an isolation is not practical.. If an AF study is/was done, and the hazzard is too high, there will have to be some changes made to the distribution. A main disconnect may have to be added, changing the trip settings on the main breaker, barriers, etc.. |
