Post subject:  Equipment rating assumptions

All - If you were doing a survey on a building built in the late sixties, found no equipment labeling and could find no equipment information what equipment AIC rating would you assume? Most of the stuff we are talking about is FPE in the 100a - 400a range of disconnects, bus switches etc.... Thanks in advance...

Probably 10K from what you are describing and not knowing voltage or anything else. Real AIC is probably higher. Maybe much higher but can you say so for sure?

On very old unmarked branch breakers 5K. Worst case scenario. Same deal. Probably at least 10K but you don't know. 5K is the lowest rating I've ever heard of.

5 kA is the correct rating for unmarked equipment. As mentioned the real rating is probably higher but that's what is the standard for unmarked ratings.
