Can you ask whomever you got the model from to open it up and investigate? I don't think random busses being added by the software is probable. Something I have seen before is somebody using the same SKM model to basically create different projects (for the same client but different distribution systems) by adding scenarios instead of creating new models for each project/distribution system. It was a mess and it messed up some of the reports by having busses in the same report from different facilities.
One other possibility is the the model was created years ago and adds and changes over time handled by "out of service" and "remove/hide" rather than destroy for stuff that doesn't exist anymore out of fear of losing historical information. This can also cause some issues with reporting.
The last thing I can think of is, that the model really does have 1021 legitimate busses as whoever built it was very detailed because they were running load flow or other analyses or using SKM for design and included every load and motor load and MCP/starter/drive etc down to fractional HP motors.
90MB is believable for a project with 1000+ busses.
If you have somewhere you can upload the project (preferably from having used the "Backup" utility and zipped) that I can download it from, I can open it up and take a peek.
