Currently in the middle of a safety audit in Europe. Arc flash study completed in 2017 and the auditor says it is not compliant because the arc flash study did not consider equipment >208 Volts but < 240 volts. Is arc flash study required for equipment >208 volts but less than 240.

Bonus points if you include the standard reference.

I would say the short answer is "yes". The voltage range you are talking about is within the bounds of IEEE 1584. What is the specific utilization voltage you are using?

Even if it uses the DGUV 203-077 method for arc flash calculation, the method is applicable over 50V; so the calculation should have been done. It may depend on the electrical safety standards of the exact country you are talking about.

In Europe, arc flash studies typically cover equipment operating above 208 volts. The range you mentioned (208-240 volts) should indeed be included in the study. Standards like IEC 61482 provide guidelines. Make sure all relevant equipment and voltage ranges are considered for safety assessments.

Yes, an arc flash study is required for equipment operating between 208V and 240V, but whether the study must cover these voltages depends on several factors, including standards and local regulations.

Hello. I am wondering why arc flash studies in Europe usually focus on equipment operating above 208 volts and why the 208-240 volt voltage range needs to be included in the studies?

208VAC three phase with short circuit current greater than 2000A. Not required for single phase 240VAC.

Great question—yes, arc flash studies are generally required for equipment operating above 50 volts, depending on available fault current and clearing time. Equipment >208V but <240V can still pose arc flash risk, so it should be evaluated per NFPA 70E standards. Also, I recently used a tool to change clothes of photo online free—surprisingly accurate for visual edits!
