When a new edition of NFPA 70E changes the label requirements, you: Re label as soon as possible The labels still comply Wait until someday when the study is redone A mix - we have many clients Nothing This question is a hot button for some so fire away! |

I'm lucky. The 5 year period in re-evaluating my fault current study is due this year. So I'm in the boat of changing them when the study is done. Ours was just completed and will be changing labels over the next couple of weeks. |

None of choices is the correct answer , unless you work for OSHA, which would mean re-label IMMEDIATELY. The correct answer is re-label as soon as feasible. I have a single client and they modify their system frequently enough that re-analyzing the system is a continuous process. The load changes very little, but old equipment is being replaced by modern equipment. More efficient motors are being added, and generally in larger horsepower range, doing the work of several smaller motors. "Change is Constant!" |

Hi Jim, Am I incorrect in telling my clients up here in Ontario that, OK a five year period has passed, there have been no changes or upgrades in the electrical distribution system, at least nothing that could affect the AF energy. With this being the case, in oppose to printing out a new set of warning labels, could one just put a small sticker beside the label indicating "updated- day/ month year? As we are all aware change will always prevail, perhaps the initial engineer made something as simple as a typo in data input, or wire measurements, etc. ... end result is a conflict with the revised (5 year later) data. Who is to say which one is wrong or incorrect |

Yes, I agree. I wrote an article a while ago that discusses the concept of keeping labels simple and using a date sticker to reaffirm the label's validity. Simplify Labels - Article |
