It appears that the “Prohibited Approach Boundary� found in NFPA 70E including Table 130.4(C)a will likely be deleted from the 2015 edition of NFPA 70E. Here is this week’s question:

Will you miss the “Prohibited Approach Boundary� in the 2015 Edition of NFPA 70E?

I never quite understood why it was in there to begin with. I guess it took them a while to realize the same thing.

Does this mean my labels are once again obsolete because someone had another "good idea"? I know the limited, restricted and prohibited approach boundaries are not required to be on the label but many include it since the software can generate it.

I believe the prohibited approach boundary was there as an inner limit to the limited approach "zone". We taught that one had to be qualified to cross the limited approach boundary, but had to consider as hot work to cross the prohibited approach boundary. My opinion is that NFPA70E did not communicate these boundaries well.
