OK so this one is pretty wild. Customer has a test stand that is a genset tied to a motor. Neither one is small...it's a 2000 kW setup. Not sure why they even bother with the electric motor in between but I digress. They play with the regulation to some degree so that they can achieve variable speed although they are limited by what the generator can do before it stalls. No fuses. I'll bet the only thing that shuts it down is when the generator stalls or the regulator fuses blow out. So my first thought is that assuming that once the generator stalls, it's all over with. So either the engine will reach peak torque limit (slowing down to get there) or the generator pull out torque occurs, whichever is higher. At that point POWER would peak but I'm not sure whether or not we can continue to slow down and still increase current output but my general thought is that this "peak torque" would correspond to the maximum current even as we lose say 20% of voltage so that would be the maximum incident energy. Am I on the right track or way off? |
