Software to continue AF Study?

Discussion in 'Software for Arc Flash Studies' started by Tim D., Oct 22, 2009.

I am in charge of Electrical Studies including AF for an industrial manufacturing facility, looking for software recommendations.

    History:
I had load flow, coordination, SC and AF studies conducted by an Engineering Firm. The study began with the Utility Distribution Gear on site through our unit substations, substation feeder breakers down to the first means of disconnect of equipment loads. I have complete preliminary study results, some coordination modifications are needed, but basically we plan to wrap up this phase soon, and label all equipment involved. I will end up with electronic files (SKM) of this study & view-only SKM software.

    Moving Forward:
We would like to continue from the point of equipment disconnects (study values provide by Eng. Firm) and do further analysis and labeling of downstream connected equipment using in-house personnel. These personnel would consist of Engineering techs & Electrical Maintenance Staff, none of which are EE's.
My question is, what software would be best suited for us? I am open to purchasing SKM PTW & associated personnel training. My concerns are that SKM may be too complicated for our users, and much more software than we really need.
Are there other less complicated softwares available that have the ability to import my SKM files completed by my Eng. Firm, crunch the numbers and produce an AF label?

    Your comments are appreciated.

ESA'S EASYPOWER is for me the simplest software available for the non-engineer. I recommended this software from several programs evaluated for my corporation. We have a corp. license, with two seats. There are cheaper variations of easypower according to what you want. Go to their web site for a free trial.
Tell them I sent you to them.

Sounds like a question for the SKM guys (to determine its cross platform ability)

However, if you decide to stick with SKM you should have the results analyzed by a qualified engineer before taking any measures...needless to mention the intricacies of an arc flash study.
