Arc Flash Analysis Test Cases

    My utility is preparing to do an in-house Arc Flash Study after the first of the year. Our original plan was to extract much of the information from our distribution system model (Milsoft's WindMil / LightTable) and add additional data as necessary. We've written an off-board application to WindMil to do the calcs, in MATLAB.

    Milsoft is now in the process of integrating the IEEE 1584 calcs into their software, but we already have our calculator ready to run. I am also concerned that their timelime may not work with our own, so the in-house application is now our back-up plan.

    I am wondering if there are any test cases available to test the app with? The concept is similar in nature to the published IEEE power flow test cases. All I have are a few cases from my RMEL Arc Flash Study course. I would like to run as many solved cases as possible thru our app before we go into our study.

    If you are doing this for a utility, you might want to get ARCPRO by Kinetrics. This is what was used to develop the tables in the NESC, which is the standard that is applicable for utilities in the USA. Unfortunately, ARCPRO results cannot be replicated by formulas, it was developed from test results.

    IEEE 1584-2002 was also developed from test results, then curve-fitted into formulas.

    But ARCPRO calculations are not documented; they are built into the proprietary software.
