NESC January 1, 2009 Deadline and Utility Status

Discussion in 'NESC - ANSI C2 - National Electrical Safety Code' started by K. Boom, Nov 13, 2007.

Just curious, are there any utility people begining to conduct the arc flash study in advance of the NESC January1, 2009 deadline? Are they using the tables in the NESC, NFPA 70E Tables, IEEE calculations or what? Any info is appreciated. It seems the three phase calculations of IEEE are a little over the top for some overhead lines with several feet of separation between them.

I have run into a few utilities that are going to use the NESC tables, a couple are going to use ArcPro and run a full study and a few are throwing their hands in the air quite confused.

We are doing a combination of things. Using three phase model from software for equipment, switchgear etc. Using NESC tables for overhead distribution since three model seems a bit much for overhead lines. Probably get away from tables in the future but for now that is the simplest.
