Tables vs. Analysis

Discussion in 'General Discussion' started by Vica1ME, Mar 30, 2009.

130.3(A)(2) gives the parameters for the Arc Flash Protection Boundary when above 1000 volts. The FPN steers me to Annex D for estimating the boundary. Are there any default numbers for voltages above 1000 volts? If not, must this boundary be calculated? Thanks!

    Basically, yes.

So then, you'll say "what's the point of using Table 130.3(C)(9) for tasks above 1 kV"? No idea.

I think that you are talking about table 130.7(C)(9).That table has nothing to do with the Arc-Flash Protection Boundary. It deals with tasks once you are inside of that boundary. You need to calculate the boundary to properly apply table 130.7(C)(9).

I am in no way promoting the tables but if you are going to reference them and use them you must follow all application guidelines......meaning following all notes and FPN's as well as first establishing the proper boundary distance.
