Arc Flash Study vs. 70E Table

Discussion in 'NFPA 70E - Standard for Electrical Safety in the W' started by MIEngineer, Mar 25, 2009.

    Hello All,

Table 130.7(C)(9) gives me a good start for FR clothing requirements until I have a full study done. Once I have completed a full study then there are no longer different Hazard/Risk catergories on the same piece of equipment?

    To clarify:
A Panelboard <240V has category 0 & 1 requirements based on the task according to 130.7(C)(9). Once my arch flash study indicates category 0 incident energy available then ANY task requires category 0 PPE, correct? Everything from CB operation to work on energized conductors?

    Thank you,

Close, once you do the study you need to wear PPE rated for your calculated Ei, you no longer use the HRC. You are correct about the tasks, it will all be the same as long as they are working at or beyond the estimated working distance.
