Just thought I would give you all a heads up on a terrific article in the August issue of the NEC Digest. The article is the cover story - "How to Perform an Arc Flash Study in 12 Steps". The author is Jim Phillips.

I believe it does an excellent job of explianing the process. This looks like this is the fisrt of three articles on this subject.

    John,

It looks like the NFPA link no longer goes to the article. Here are the links to the three parts of the article "How to Perform an Arc Flash Study in 12 Steps.

    Part 1

    Part 2

    Part 3

    Time current curve

    Hey Brainfiller, Hi Jim,

I was reading your "How to Perform an Arc Flash" paper, it is very informative. I was wondering if you have a more in depth explanation of the Time-Current Curve somewhere that I can look at? Maybe one with examples of reading it...

    Thanks,

    Bombo,
Go to this website and download the manual.

    http://www2.sea.siemens.com/Product...g/Product/Datasheet-Manual/StaticTrip-III.htm

this is the program manual for a Siemens Static Trip III programmer for Low Voltage Switchgear. It goes into a lot of details about the individual portions of the TCC. But I do fault them for not putting the full TCC curve in the manual. You have to get that by contacting them.

You can also google GE Industrial Switchgear. GE has some of the best white papers around, but its really difficult to find them.

    Hi Bombo,

The IEEE Red and Buff books have some good info if you have access to a technical library. Also if you go to a short video clip: instantaneous coordination it might help a bit.

I'll be in touch off line with a few more suggestions.
