Arc Flash Enclosures

    My company has recently decided to take arc flash protection seriously. We do have an analysis for the majority of our equipment. Over the last few years we have installed all electrical equipment in enclosures (drives, starters, disconnects, etc.), but we still have alot of old equipment that is wall mounted in a control room without protection. Our goal is to have all control rooms only require a category 2 to enter the room. Does anyone know of a company that specializes in enclosing electrical equipment in this manner? Does anyone have any suggestions for undertaking a project such as this?

    Level 2 is 8 cals/cm2. What makes you think you are above that now.

    Just a word of caution or comment. In the UK there are still a number of freestanding unenclosed switchgear panels below 1000volts and there have been attempts to retrofit cladding to protect workers from touching live equipment. Because of the lack of arc flash awareness here the actual incident energy levels have been increased and hence increased the danger. The "open" switchboards could justifiably be assumed to be dealt with as open arc before but become arc in a box once they are enclosed in this way. The operators still have to open to front cover to access fuseways etc so this would be seen as energized working. I'd be very interested to hear how this can be overcome.
